Police probe policeman’s drowning in River Offin

Accra, April 4, GNA – The Ghana Police Service is investigating the death of General Constable John Kwabena Dogbey, who drowned in the Offin River.

A press release issued by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Onyina of the Central North Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Directorate, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said that the incident occurred on April 2, 2025, at Assin Domeabra in the Central Region.

It said preliminary findings, indicated that the Constable, assigned to the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce at Assin Domeabra, accidentally fell into the Offin River while dismantling a Chanfan machine used by illegal miners.

“With the help of some divers, the Constable was found after hours of intensive rescue efforts and conveyed to the Saint Francis Xavier Hospital, Assin Fosu, where the medical officer on duty pronounced him dead,” the release said.

The release said the body had been sent to the Police Hospital’s Morgue for preservation and autopsy.

“The Police Administration is in touch with the deceased family to provide the needed support in these difficult times,” it said.

Meanwhile, the Taskforce dismantled one Chanfan machine and seized two pumping machines, two excavator batteries, and three excavator keys.
