Accra, April 21, GNA- Passion for Needy, an NGO, on Monday offered educational scholarships to two children of Street Academy in Accra.
The scholarship, which begins next academic year, will be for brilliant but needy students from the basic level to the university.
The initiative, the NGO stated, was to motivate them to take their education seriously for a better future.
Mrs Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, Chairperson, Passion for Needy, announced this when she presented assorted items to the Academy.
The items include bags of rice, boxes of canned fish, gallons of vegetable oil, boxes of tomato puree, soft drinks, bottled water, packs of toilet rolls, and powdered soap.
The gesture, she said, was to reduce the burden on government in providing for the needy in society.
The late Propher T.B.Joshua, the founder of the NGO, she said, directed them to always identify the brilliant but needy students and provide them with the needed support.
“We are always committed in our small way to supporting the government’s efforts in alleviating poverty in the country,” she said.
The NGO, since its inception in 2009, has supported privately owned charitable organisations like the Teshie and Nungua Children’s Home, Christ Faith Foster Home at Frafraha, YOA Foundation, and the Islamic Research Institute at Nima.
Mr Atta Lartey, the Founder of the academy, thanked the organisation for its continuous spirited support to respond to their needs and pledged to use the items for their intended purposes.
He prayed for the NGO to grow from strength to strength, adding, “I know that all your efforts will not go in vain.”
