Kete-Krachi (O/R), April 1, GNA- The Oti Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Hudu Haruna, has called on Muslims to maintain their purity and righteousness even after the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims in the region joined their counterparts across the world in celebrating Eid Al-Fitr after a successful period of fasting and prayer.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Alhaji Hudu Haruna expressed concern that some Muslims adhered strictly to Islamic teachings only during Ramadan.

“Some Muslims take Islamic teachings seriously only during the fasting period,” he observed.

He emphasised that Islam is a religion of peace and urged believers to uphold its principles at all times.

“We must obey Islamic teachings always, whether during fasting or not. Let us stay away from trouble and acts that go against Islamic values, such as crime, alcohol consumption, fornication, gossip, and other sinful behaviors,” he advised.

The Chief Imam also reminded Muslims of their obligation to pay Sadakatul Fitr, a form of charity given at the end of Ramadan.

“Sadakatul Fitr is an essential aspect of Ramadan and the Eid celebration. It purifies the soul, promotes unity and equality, and provides much-needed support to the poor and needy, allowing them to celebrate Eid with dignity. Let us fulfill this obligation,” he urged.

He encouraged Muslims to use the occasion of Eid to express gratitude to Allah, seek forgiveness, and strengthen their sense of compassion and social responsibility.

Meanwhile, the Regional Chief Imam called for a peaceful and trouble-free Eid celebration, urging the Muslim community to avoid any actions that contradicted Islamic teachings.
