Akumadan, (Ashanti), April 23, GNA-Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso North Constituency in the Ashanti Region has inaugurated ‘FIFA’ standard Astro-turf facility in the constituency.
The MP said constructed the artificial pitch which has flood lights and other auxiliary facilities to host night matches at Akumadan to help earth and nurture the football talents in the constituency.
Speaking at a ceremony at Akumadan which coincided with the 2025 edition of the annual ‘Anidaso Easter Gala’ an initiative of the MP, Dr Asamoah said the facility would accelerate the development of football and sports in general.
He said the area had great football talents, underscoring the need to unearth and nurture those inherent talents in the youth to create opportunities for them to build on their lives.
“In the next five years, we must produce quality players, who will feature in both local and international leagues,” the MP stated, saying with the auxiliary facilities, the artificial pitch could host both local and international matches.
A total of 14 male and female teams from five zones of Akumadan, Afrancho, Nkenkensu,Daaso-Nkwaakwaa and Nsenua competed in the four-day gala matches.
At the end of the matches the Akumadan Faith Young Boys and Akumadan Ladies from the Akumadan Zone emerged winners in the male and female categories, respectively.
For their prize, both teams receive trophies and medals and undisclosed sums of money.
All the competing teams as well as some deserving players received various packages from the MP.
