NEDCo rakes in GH¢850,000 in revenue collection exercise

Mim, (Ahafo), April 9, GNA – The Sunyani Area office of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) rakes in GH¢850,000 during its revenue collection and loss control exercise at Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region.

According to Mr Augustine Akolgo Nsor, the Sunyani Area Revenue Protection Officer of the NEDCo, the exercise commenced Monday April 7, 2025, and aimed at recovering unpaid debts from private and public sector customers as well as tackling illegal connections.

He said the company had constituted a team that went round to collect the debts, saying it had suspended some most of its operations including new service connections and was therefore focusing on the debt recovery.

Mr Nsor explained that the Ayum Forest Product Limited owed the company GH¢5.6 million, however “issued a post-dated cheque of GH¢800,000 to the team”, saying the Supremo Wood Processing Limited was disconnected for owing the company GH¢1.4 million.

The company was however reconnected after settling part of its debts, he added, indicating that the CookClean Ghana Limited would be disconnected if the company failed to pay the outstanding GH¢51,000.

Mr Nsor said the exercise was still on within the Sunyani NEDCo operational areas, saying “the debt collection is critical as NEDCo requires immediate funds to meet its obligations to suppliers and ensure a reliable power supply”.

He said the company was going through financial challenges, thereby affecting its ability to meet both internal and external commitments, saying that “overloaded transformers, aging equipment, and a rapidly expanding power network exacerbate the situation.

”Mr Nsor said the revenue collected was essential not only for settling debts with external creditors like Volta River Authority and power generators, but also for maintaining and upgrading NEDCo’s infrastructure development.

“The revenue collection initiative deems vital for the company’s sustainability and service continuity,” he stated, and urged owing customers to pay their debts, saying the exercise did not impose penalties on unpaid bills.
