Accra, April 24, GNA – MTN Ghana at the Chief Technology Innovation Officers (CTIOs) conference have urged businesses to leverage the full potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to thrive in their businesses.
Ms. Angela Mensah-Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, MTN Ghana, in her remarks said AI had come to stay and therefore individuals and businesses must harness AI in for their businesses to grow.
She said digital transformation was not just about technology; it was also about changing the way businesses operate.
“CTIOs need to be able to think strategically about how to use technology to improve their businesses, and also CTIOs need to be able to work closely with other stakeholders in their businesses,” she said.
She spoke about the importance of digital transformation for businesses, and highlighted the role that MTN played in helping businesses in Ghana transform digitally.
Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo Executive Director of the Data Protection Commission (DPC), stressed the importance of balancing technological advancement with citizens’ rights.
He said, “our mandate goes beyond regulation,” it is about shaping the future where technology serves people, businesses, and society responsibly.”
He emphasised that AI must not be allowed to outpace ethical considerations.
“We believe every Ghanaian must benefit from the full value of their digital presence without fear of misuse.”
Addressing issues with business owners, he said there was a need for data controllers to obtain proper certification and ensure compliance with data protection laws, even when working with third-party vendors.
He said the Commission has introduced the framework for Ghana’s National AI Strategy, highlighting several priority areas, such as expanding skills across sectors to foster a generation of ethical and innovative AI practitioners, encouraging the development of APIs and interoperable platforms that ensure citizens can move their data freely and securely across services and ensuring that AI systems are transparent, fair, and representative of Ghana’s demographic and societal context.
The CTIO Conference in Accra brought together stakeholders and experts from across Africa to discuss the latest trends in AI transformation and emerging technologies.
