Mixed reactions greet sacking of Tamale Teaching Hospital CEO

By Albert Futukpor

Tamale, April 23, GNA – The sacking of Dr Adam Atiku, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has dominated discussions in the hospital community and generating mixed reactions as to its appropriateness.

Whilst some believe that something drastic needed to be done to improve health care delivery at TTH, others argued that sacking the CEO was not the solution to the health care delivery challenges experienced at the facility.

Others said TTH’s challenges included sabotage, tribalism, and indiscipline resulting in breakdown of equipment, lack of essential supplies and poor attitude to work by some staff, which must be tackled to ensure improved health care delivery.

The Ghana News Agency visited the facility on Wednesday and observed that operations were going on smoothly with patients reporting at OPD and going through the processes to be attended to.

Meanwhile, GNA picked signals that some doctors at the facility were not happy about the sacking of the CEO and how the Minister engaged with one of the medical doctors at the facility and had planned to meet to consider their next line of action.

Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister for Health on Tuesday announced the sacking of Dr Atiku after paying an unannounced visit to the facility to observe operations at the facility.

The Minister, who was at the facility following complaints of poor health care delivery, appeared unimpressed with what he observed at the facility and the response of some of the medical staff.
