Minister inspects work on abandoned Berekum-Sampa Road project

Berekum, (Bono), April 04, GNA – Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways has inspected works on the construction of the 119-kilometer Berekum-Sampa highway in the Bono Region.

Checks by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) revealed that the previous government awarded the road project to the Rango Construction Limited, however construction works on the project had been abandoned.

The abandonment of the project had worsened the condition of the road, thereby generating a huge public outcry in local communities along the stretch, as they could no longer bear the dust in the dry, and mud in the wet seasons.

However, during the inspection visit, Mr Agbodza urged the residents to remain calm, assuring them that the government would facilitate work to resume for the completion of the project.

He said though the contract on the project had proper documentation, the ministry had re-engaged the contractors who had agreed to pre-finance and resume work on the project.

Mr Agbodza gave an assurance of the government’s commitment to complete all the abandoned road projects in the country and urged Ghanaians to remain calm.
