Accra, April 2, GNA – The Military Police and the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigative Department are investigating seven military personnel accused of assaulting three civilians over an alleged phone theft.
A press release by Brigadier General Eric Aggrey-Quarshie, Director General, Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, said the three officers and four soldiers are under investigation for causing injuries to the civilians.
“The attention of the Military High Command has been drawn to an incident that is alleged to have taken place in Kumasi on Friday, March 28, 2025,” the release noted.
“Seven military personnel made up of three officers and four soldiers are alleged to have arrested and assaulted three civilians for stealing a mobile phone belonging to another civilian,” it added.
The civilians reportedly sustained varied degrees of injuries.
The officers and soldiers have been placed under closed arrest while investigations continue, the release said.
The Military High Command assured the public that anyone found culpable will face legal action.
It urged families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the investigation’s outcome.
