Ejisu-Asaman (Ash), April 03, GNA – LG Electronics in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kumasi – Premier International, has commissioned a solar-powered borehole to address the water crisis in the Ejisu-Asaman community.
The community, located in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has been hit with erratic water supply attributed to occasional breakdown of the community’s borehole.
The existing borehole at Ejisu-Asaman, built over three decades ago, has gone through several renovations.
Mr. Stephen Boamah, Assembly member for Tikrom-Baworo-Asaman Electoral Area explains that the only borehole had been faulty for a while and the community had always experienced shortage water.
He said due to the unclean nature of streams in the area, residents could not rely on them for potable water.
Mr. Akwasi Brobbey, a resident of the area, is worried about a possible disease outbreak in the community.
“We know water related diseases are common and spread easily, if the water we use is not from a good source, it is a big worry,” he emphasised.
The residents are appealing to the government for a long-term solution as they accessed temporary means to deal with the situation.
Mr. Katakyie Afrifa, a Representative for LG Electronics, said it was important that water for domestic use was made available to all in society.
It was in this regard, he explained, that LG has partnered with the charity organization to address one of the pressing issues facing the Ejisu-Asaman community.
He believed sustainability was the way to go which was the reason for building a solar water system as a means of promoting renewable energy.
Mr. Afrifa indicated that the Electronic Company had embarked on such projects in other countries adding that, they were now focusing on Ghana to enhance their broader mission of addressing critical community needs through impactful and sustainable initiatives.

Mr. Avinash Lakhani, President – elect of the Rotary Club of Kumasi-Premier International, advised the leaders of the community to maintain the facility installed.
He assured them that further assistance in the area of sanitation for the community could be provided if proper maintenance of the solar powered borehole was put into practice over a period of time.
