Anloga (VR), April 24, GNA – Togbui Akamu V of Anlo-Afiadenyigba, in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has urged stakeholders, institutions, philanthropists and the government to as a matter of urgency help promote youth activities through sports.
The move, he said, would enable the many scouts in various sporting events to identify and unearth more talents and nurture them for the progress of the area.
Togbui Akamu made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, after the first edition of Nuworza Easter Cycling Competition.
The competition was organised and spearheaded by the Anloga-based Hogbe Radio.
Togbui Akamu urged the public to come together and help develop potentials.
“I am very happy our youths are gradually understanding the importance of other sports apart from football; we need to help them develop and improve,” he said.
He explained that the youth are the future leaders, and all stakeholders must prioritise various developmental sporting events, which include cycling, Footvolley, athletics, beach volley, among others that could reshape and promote healthy living among them within the area for positive impact on the communities.

He commended Mr. Kafui Agbleze, the Volta Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer, security agencies, among others for the support in organising a successful cycling competition that enabled cyclists to showcase their skills and endurance.
Togbui Akamu appealed to other chiefs and stakeholders in Anlo land to collaborate and stage one importance festival celebration that should be celebrated during every Easter to champion development projects in communities in Anlo state and beyond.
“People of Eastern region adopt the Kwahu Easter festival and it is bringing them recognition, it promotes their culture and tourism, we can also have our Kwahu Easter festival here in Volta to attract more investors.”
The Nuworza Easter cycling competition featured 33 professional cyclists from across the country who covered a 61-kilometre distance from Atsiwuta in the Ketu South Municipality to Anloga.
All the cyclists received various forms of awards which include cash, medal, certificate and others.
