Dzodze (V/R), April 10, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Mr. Eric Edem Agbana, has received 900 dual desks from the former MP for the area, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, to support the education sector and alleviate the infrastructure challenges in public basic schools across the constituency.
The donation, which was made during a brief ceremony at Dzodze, was witnessed by the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, and the Deputy CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Madam Joan Selasie Ahiawordor, as well as other stakeholders in the education sector.
The desks, which were fully financed and produced through the personal initiative of Dr. Avedzi, are aimed at addressing the widespread issue of inadequate classroom furniture that has seen many pupils in the municipality forced to study on the floor.
In his remarks, Dr. Avedzi stated that even though he was no longer the sitting MP, his commitment to the welfare and development of Ketu North remained unwavering.
“Education has always been a priority for me. These desks are part of my continuous contribution to solving some of the infrastructure deficits in our schools. Our children deserve better learning environments,” he said.
Mr. Edem Agbana, who received the items on behalf of the constituency, described the gesture as timely and significant, noting that it would go a long way to improve the teaching and learning experience in the municipality’s basic schools.
“This generous donation by my predecessor, Dr. Avedzi, is not only a testament to his love for this constituency but also a demonstration of true leadership and continuity in service. I am deeply grateful for his thoughtfulness,” Mr. Agbana said.
He emphasised that no child should be forced to learn on the floor and no teacher should struggle to manage a class due to a lack of basic furniture and reaffirmed his resolve to make education accessible and effective for all school-going children in Ketu North.
Mr. Agbana further announced that in collaboration with the Ketu North Municipal Education Directorate, the desks would be equitably distributed across public basic schools in the municipality, with a focus on schools in urgent need.
“We are committed to transparency and fairness. Every community, every school, and every child matters. Our focus will be on those in dire need to ensure maximum impact,” he added.
He also reiterated that improving educational infrastructure and learning conditions remained one of his top priorities, and called on individuals, development partners, and private institutions to support the constituency’s education agenda.
“Together, we can build a Ketu North where quality education is not a privilege for the few, but a guarantee for all,” he said.
The symbolic handover of the desks marked a moment of unity and collaboration between past and present leaders in pursuit of a common goal, a better future for the children of Ketu North through quality education.
