Ja Rule tours Pencils of Promise partner schools

Adaklu- Seva (V/R), April 03, GNA – American rapper, singer and philanthropist Ja Rule and wife Aisha have toured some structures they partnered with Pencils of Promise to provide in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region.

The singer visited Adaklu-Seva D/A Basic School and Adaklu-Sikama D/A Basic, where Pencils of Promise has provided a six-unit classroom block, toilet, urinal, water filters and handwashing stations.

Earlier, Ja Rule visited Nuaso Anglican Primary School in the Eastern Region where he commissioned a six-unit classroom that he partnered Pencils of Promise to construct for the school.

The rapper reaffirmed his commitment to education, urging parents and guardians to prioritise their children’s education and support them with the necessary materials.

Ja Rule commended Pencils of Promise for their support and dedication in championing quality education through provision of infrastructure.

He hoped to partner with them to provide more.

Mr. Freeman Gobah, Country Director for Pencils of Promise, said the organisation implemented two main programmes in schools in addition to the provision of infrastructure.

The programmes are teacher support, which aims to increase literacy rates in schools through the provision of teaching and learning resources, and in-service training for teachers.

The other programme is water, sanitation and hygiene which goal is to ensure that good hygiene is being practiced in schools to make sure learners are safe and stay healthy.

Mr. Gobah said the purpose of the visit was to afford Ja Rule the opportunity to see these programmes firsthand, and to see the impact of these programmes were making on Ghanaian schools.

He said for the past 13 years they have completed 206 classroom blocks in 206 communities in Volta, Oti and Eastern Regions of the country and that the intervention in these schools was impacting about 60,000 children.

The Country Director said they have supported over 2,000 teachers through in- service training and in water, sanitation and hygiene programmes.

Mrs. Marian Jemima Akua Adzroe, Volta Regional Deputy Director of Education thanked Pencils of Promise and its partners for their commitment and determination in improving quality education in the three regions of the country.

Mr. Noah Adeti, Headteacher of Adaklu-Seva Basic School, thanked Pencils of Promise for their interventions in the school, which helped to improve teaching and learning.

Mr. Samuel Ahiadzi, Headteacher of Adaklu-Sikama Basic School, also expressed appreciation to the organisation for its contribution to enhancing teaching and learning in the school.
