Accra, April 2, GNA – The inflation rate eased marginally in March 2025 to 22.4 per cent year-on-year from February’s 23.1 per cent on lower food costs, the Ghana Statistical Service said on Wednesday.
“In the month of March 2025, we recorded a much sharper decline in food inflation, which declined by 1.6% point, and a marginal decline in non-food inflation, which declined by 0.1% point between February 2025 and March 2025,” Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, the Government Statistician, told a press conference.
The rate of inflation of 22.4 percent is the lowest in the last four months, he said.
The rate of inflation peaked at 23.8 percent, gradually slowing down through 23.5 percent, 23.1 percent and 22.4 percent for the month of March 2025.
Professor Annim said food inflation, though still high, decreased to 26.5 per cent in March from 28.1 per cent the previous month.
Non-food inflation also saw a slight dip, settling at 18.7 per cent compared to February’s 18.8 per cent.
On a monthly basis, inflation was more subdued, with overall prices rising just 0.2 per cent in March.
Notably, food prices contracted by 0.2 per cent month-on-month, indicating a potential slowdown in food inflation.
However, non-food inflation accelerated slightly, increasing by 1.3 per cent compared to February’s 0.9 per cent.
On regional basis, the Volta Region recorded the lowest year-on-year inflation at 18.9 per cent in March 2025.
