Accra, April 10, GNA – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is leading a delegation of operations, investigation and intelligence officers to Bawku in the Upper East Region to assess the security situation firsthand.
The IGP’s visit follows a violent clash between local youth and the police on Wednesday, April 9, resulting in one fatality and five others sustaining gunshot injuries, including a police officer and an immigration officer. The deceased has been identified as Fuseini Iddrisu.
The incident also caused significant property damage, including two police vehicles, a rented police accommodation in Binduri, and private residences of some officers.
The private residence of Madam Laadi Ayii Ayamba, the Member of Parliament for Pusiga constituency in has been set ablaze in Bawku by unknown people Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The Ghana News Agency also gathered that there was a failed attempt to attack the private residence of Mr Mahama Ayariga, MP for the Bawku Central Constituency in Bawku.
In a statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that calm had been restored to the area through collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces.
“Security has since been tightened in Bawku and surrounding communities, with ongoing joint police and military patrols,” the statement added.
The Police Service assured the public of its commitment to working with the Ghana Armed Forces, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders to maintain security, law, and order in Bawku.
During the visit, the IGP and his team will meet with the family of the deceased, visit the injured in the hospital, and reach out to officers whose properties were damaged in the violence.
