Hohoe (V/R), April 13, GNA – Traditional rulers, religious leaders, political party faithfuls and sympathisers in Hohoe have bid farewell to Dr Bernice Adiku-Heloo, former Hohoe Constituency Member of Parliament.
She was born on September 24, 1954, in Hohoe, Volta Region, attended Mawuli School in Ho and obtained an A level from OLA Senior High School.
Dr Adiku-Heloo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana, M.Phil Adult Education from the University of Ghana, M.ED in Literacy for Rural Development from the University of Manchester and a Doctorate from the Swiss Management Centre University.
As an MP from 2013 to 2020, she served in many political positions including a branch executive, board member of the Ghana COCOBOD, Regional Lands Commission Chairperson and Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
Dr Adiku-Heloo through the formation of the Pro-Link, launched numerous impactful projects, including advocacy for HIV/AIDS awareness, gender equity, poverty alleviation and access to education.
She also became the International President of the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa (SWAA), amplifying the voices of women affected by the disease across the continent.
Dr Dela Heloo, Widower, described his late wife as someone who was appreciative of any help offered her and would always say a ‘thank you’.
He said he would miss his better half for her unwavering support.
Children of Dr Adiku-Heloo described their mother as one who endured many challenges and trials in life yet faced them all with grace and strength.
They said she was more than a mother to them and many as well as a guiding light who touched lives far beyond their own family.
“Your kindness, love, and wisdom left an indelible mark on hearts around the world”.
Parliament of Ghana in a tribute said the late legislator discharged her duties with love and humility and demonstrated values of commitment, advocacy and dedication to service.
The Legislature remembered the former member for her astuteness when it came to question on the Appointments Committee and the fight for lifting people out of poverty.
The Hohoe Constituency National Democratic Congress (NDC),said Dr Adiku-Heloo’s contributions to the Hohoe Constituency were multifaceted. She advocated for peace and security, fostering lasting harmony between communities.
“Her investments in education, healthcare and infrastructure development, transformed lives and empowered future generations”.
The Gbidukor noted that Dr Adiku-Heloo remained steadfast supporter of Gbidukor using her influence and network for Gbidukor’s benefit for the past 20 years.
It said Dr Adiku-Heloo successfully secured sponsorships, led fundraising efforts and participated in events, including the annual cycling competition where apart from being a guest of honour, she actually rode with the pack.
She died at age 70.
