Accra, April.14, GNA – Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has called on delegates to elect competent leaders who will uplift the image of the Olympic Movement in the next four years.
He said voting for individuals based on their credibility, integrity, selflessness as well as their records and achievements would go a long way to ensure that the good brand of the GOC would be maintained.
The Ghana Olympic Committee is expected to head to the polls on April 26,2025 to elect new leaders to run its affairs.
Mr. Nunoo Mensah speaking at the Extra Ordinary Congress in Accra lauded the delegates for the trust and confidence they had in him during his tenure which had yielded loads of achievements.
He further charged the incoming board to ensure that the $500,000 savings accrued over the past years was invested into the OlympAfrica Juvenile Sports Excellence Centre at Amasaman, as he had intended.
The Amasaman OlympAfrica Project, consisting of an in-house football academy, basketball and volleyball courts, tennis court, among others is designed to be a hub for discovering and nurturing young sports talents, whilst providing them with the necessary facilities and training to grow into elite athletes.
He urged the incoming leaders to focus on the project which would provide the country with resources needed to prepare for various competitions.
The GOC President expressed appreciation to all who supported him in his eight-year journey.
Under his stewardship, Ghana, for the first time in three decades won a medal at the 2020 Olympic Games, increased support for lesser-known sports, ensuring consistent financial support for various national federations and athletes, whereas spearheading other developmental projects.
