Kumasi, April 16, GNA – The management of the National Mosque of Ghana has issued an apology regarding a video circulating on social media that shows people dancing to secular songs during a marriage reception held in the mosque’s courtyard.

The video has raised concerns among various Muslim communities in Ghana about the appropriateness of renting out the mosque’s courtyard for a marriage reception without ensuring that the renters adhere to Islamic principles.

Many have described this action as disrespectful.

In a press statement released by the management of the Ghana National Mosque, they acknowledged their responsibility for the incident, although it was not the outcome they had anticipated.

“We acknowledge that the criticisms and concerns raised are valid, and we do not seek to defend the actions of those who rented the premises.

As we review the context and specifics of the video, we will work diligently to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not occur in the future,” the statement said.

It further assured the public that management would take steps to rectify the situation and prevent similar occurrences.

“We take this opportunity to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to preserving the dignity, values, and sanctity of this sacred institution.

We appeal to everyone to approach this matter with patience and unity and to continue supporting the management with constructive suggestions and sincere advice,” the statement added.

Over the years, the mosque has rented out its courtyard, which is part of the prayer area, for Islamic gatherings, and its spaces and halls for events to generate income.
