Galamsey Crackdown: Police Reshuffle Commanders at Flashpoint Areas

Accra, April 22, GNA – The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh-Yohuno, has reshuffled divisional and district police commanders in key Galamsey flashpoints in Eastern South, Western, and Western North

The move forms part of efforts to combat illegal mining.

A press release issued by the Police Public Affairs Directorate said the development was the first phase of a broader reshuffle designed to inject fresh energy into the fight against Galamsey.

In a related development, police reported that they had arrested 47 persons during a four-day crackdown along the Tano River and in the Aboi, Subri, and Nimiri Forests of the Western Region.

Officials indicated that the suspects comprised eight Chinese and 39 Ghanaians, including four women.

Seized exhibits included 17 excavators, one bulldozer, four motorbikes, two Toyota Hilux vehicles, one Rav4 vehicle, four pump action guns, one single-barrel gun, 54 live BB cartridges, and eight pumping machines.
