Kadjebi (O/R), April 08, GNA – Ms Belinda Sarpong, a former teacher of Ampeyo D/A Junior High School (JHS) in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, has donated sanitary pads to girls from two schools.

The beneficiaries were from Ampeyo D/A JHS and Todome D/A JHS in the Kadjebi District.

The donation was part of her 31st birthday celebration, which fell on March 31.

Engaging with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms Sarpong, said she was motivated to donate the pads to enable the learners to stay in the classroom and learn.

She observed that some learners stay off school during their menstrual cycles because they do not have sanitary pads, while some resort to seeking assistance from boy to get some money to buy pads, which at times results in unwanted pregnancies.

Ms Sarpong stated that a total of 576 sanitary pads were distributed to the learners and that the donation would be an annual event to contribute to the overall well-being and empowerment of adolescent girls during their menstrual cycles.

Madam Emma Zottor Asilevi, the Kadjebi District Girl-Child Education Officer, who accompanied Ms. Sarpong to the schools, said the benefactor’s act of kindness would inspire others to follow suit, creating a ripple effect of generosity and compassion.

She advised the girls to shun bad company and concentrate on their studies to become responsible adults for themselves and for Mother Ghana.
