Nkroful (W/R), April 1, GNA — Mr Saaka Alhassan, the Ellembele District Roads Engineer, has urged the Ministry of Roads and Highways to resume work on all roads awarded on contract in the district.
He noted with concern that some major road construction projects that had been awarded on contract to Memphis Metropolitan Construction Limited with the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC), had stalled due to financial constraints.
He said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
Mr Alhassan expressed worry that commuters and residents in some parts of Ellembelle found it difficult to travel to transact business due to poor road network linking communities.
According to him, since the budget of the district was not enough, it had sent letters to the Ministry of Roads and Highways through the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council to respond to the deplorable nature of the roads which had been awarded on contract to be completed.
He said: “The District Assembly is not in a good financial position to approve a budget to fix the bad road and the collapsed bridge over the River Ebi near Aiyinasi linking Esiama and Aiyinasi, which used to be the major road until the construction of the ABU International Road from Esiama to Elubo.”
Mr Alhassan appealed to the GNPC to ensure that work resumed on the feeder roads in Ellembelle to enhance the easy movement of goods and services.
Meanwhile, all attempts to get the Engineer of the Memphis Metropolitan Construction Limited to respond to the issues proved futile.
