Tema, April 17, GNA – Staff of the Juapong District of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under the Tema Regional Office of the company have been taken through a day’s seminar on security and safety to enhance their fieldwork.

The seminar, management noted, was necessitated by some threats faced by the field workers of the utility service provider.

Chief Inspector Eugene Osafo Obiri, Station Officer for the Frankadua Police Station, interacting with the ECG staff, encouraged them to improve upon their customer relations, indicating that it was important for field workers to know how to communicate with clients.

“In some instances, the way you speak about your reasons for being on the field, expectations from customers and possible sanctions could lead to some anger and possible violence,” he said.

Chief Inspector Obiri added that workers should always scan their environments and, when they sense any danger, should retreat and report to their supervisors and the police.

He added that as staff of ECG dealing with various kinds of people, they need to exercise and show very high levels of patience and restraint to be able to diffuse tension where necessary for their work to go on smoothly.

He advised the ECG to always be in the company’s prescribed attire and have their staff identity cards always on them to gain the trust of the public, as some unscrupulous people go about in various communities to extort money from unsuspecting customers in the name of ECG.

Mr. William Ahenkorah, the District Manager for ECG Juapong District and an engineer, urged the staff to educate the customers on the cashless services of the ECG, cautioning them not to extort money from the customers before helping them to use the cashless service.

He further asked them to be mindful of acts which could be interpreted as contrary to the company’s policies, indicating that staff could lose their jobs if found going against the policy forbidding them from taking cash from customers.
