Tema, April 1, GNA — The Daylight Events organisation has given awards to ten outstanding women in Tema and its environs for their achievements in sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

The laureates Madam Vincentia Kunpke Agba, the founder of Agbamami Restaurant; Ms. Ebi Bright, politician and entrepreneur; Rev. Dr. Mrs. Joyce Orleans, founder of JOMADJ Christian College; Mrs. Elizabeth Amafua Tagoe, founder of the Global Training Institute; and Ms. Charity Dela Siameh, the Assembly Member for Adjei Kojo.

Others are Madam Edem Attipoe, former Tema West Municipal Chief Executive; Mrs. Josephine Hagan Eshun, founder of Bodybutter Spa Academy; Madam Susana Oppong, Car Sprayer; Mrs. Barbara Afful Asamoah, founder of Santa Barbra School; and Mrs. Evan Frimpong-Nyarko, Founder of Fry ‘N’ Bake Restaurant.

The event brought together women from both the formal and informal sectors, who shared their experiences, pledging to be a support base for each other.

Nana Yaw Opoku Danso, the Director of Event for Daylights Events, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the recognition was part of the organisation’s celebration of International Women’s Day, which is celebrated globally on March 8, annually.

Mr. Danso said they acknowledged that there were some women doing great things in Tema and its environs and therefore decided to recognise their effort to serve as motivation to young women in the society.

He indicated that even though there were many women, they selected 10 to start and hoped to reach many more in the years to come, adding that their works did not only impact their families but also the entire society.

Mrs. Barbara Afful Asamoah, the Founder of Santa Barbara School, commended the organisation for the recognition and advised young women against rushing to make it in life.

Mrs. Asamoah explained that they must remember that their capital is not to be spent, adding that until the business grows, they must even invest their profits in the job to give it the needed financial base to thrive.

She said they must value honesty, truth and commitment in their work if they want to succeed and be a role model for others.

Madam Edem Attipoe, former Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, also expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting that it was refreshing to see women from both the formal and informal sectors being recognised for their contributions to society.

She cautioned young women against believing everything they see on social media, noting that telenovelas and social media make women believe that marriage is supposed to be a gold mine for them, instead of working together with their husbands to turn things around.
