Ho, April 13, GNA – Right Rev. Prosper Dzomeku, Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC), has advised Christians to make prayer a key component of their worship.
He noted that it was only through prayer that Christians could communicate with God and make their requests known to Him.
Rt. Rev. Dzomeku gave the advice in a sermon at the burial service for the late Very Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Kormla Gbordzoe, a former Moderator of the GEC at the Jubilee Park in Ho.
Very Rev. Dr. Gbordzoe, the fourth Moderator of the Church died at the Ho Teaching Hospital on 29th January, 2025 after a short illness.
Basing his sermon on “Prayer” and taken from Matthew 6: 7 – 13, Rt. Rev. Dzormeku said that prayer also enabled Christians to grow spiritually and urged them to step up the momentum of prayer.
He extolled the virtues of prayer of the late Moderator which he said was worth emulating by all Christians, adding “he was a strong believer in the power of prayer.”
In a tribute, his children described him as a devoted father who demonstrated that “a family was everything.”
They said he was a man of prayer and unparalleled integrity and that in his career and personal relationships “you always did the right thing even when it was difficult or unpopular, your honesty and steadfast moral compass taught us that true integrity means staying true to oneself.”
They noted that his pieces of advice which was always given with clarity, calm and rational mind, were never just words, but a source of profound wisdom that resonated well with them.
Mrs. Sena Gbordzoe, the widow on her part, said her husband was an incredible father and husband whose love and patience for her and their children were a true testament of the amazing person he was.
“You were my friend, confidant, role model and able prayer partner and comforter,” she said of him.
The GEC in their tribute stated that the late Moderator leveraged the strong foundation laid by his predecessors to forge a partnership between the church and several foreign entities and individuals.
The tribute noted that during his second term, the church achieved significant milestones including the acquisition of the Moderator and Synod Clerk’s residence, both situated at the Church’s headquarters in Accra and a convention centre at Adaklu Wumenu.
“He was a mentor and a teacher whose life impacted the lives of many young people who had gone on to serve the Church as pastors and lay Ministers.”
The family in their tribute said he encouraged them to uphold the virtues of honesty, openness and above all to always stand for the truth, adding “a gem, the pillar and the great oak tree of the family has fallen.”
Very Rev. Dr. Gbordzoe was born on 23rd August, 1949 at Awate Todzi in the North Dayi district to Mr. Samuel Gbordzoe and Madam Dumehasi, all of blessed memory and was the sixth of ten siblings.
He began his education at Awate Todzi United Primary and continued at the Local Authority Middle School in the same community.
