Fiapre, (Bono), April 8, GNA – The Catholic University of Ghana (CUG) has launched a GHC300 million endowment fund to facilitate the institution’s long-term financial sustainability, its progressive growth and development.
The fund on the theme “help build CUG” will support infrastructure development, faculty capacity building, student scholarships, and research initiatives.
Professor Daniels Kwabena Obeng-Ofori, the Vice Chancellor of the CUG expressed appreciation to the former President John Agyekum Kufuor for contributing GHC100, 000 into the fund, and others who had also donated into the fund.
Speaking at the launch of the fund held at the university’s main campus at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality, Prof Obeng-Ofori said the fund “fulfills a key government requirement, as the institution attained the Presidential Charter three years ago”.
“The fund is more than a financial mechanism, rather a symbol of our collective commitment to safeguarding the future of catholic higher education in Ghana”, he stated, saying every contribution strengthened the university’s mission.
Prof Obeng-Ofori appealed to the university alumni, development partners and the public to contribute to the fund, saying “donations can be made through CUG’s official GCB Bank Account: 7011010163634”.
The Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, the Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference who launched the fund explained that the theme chosen highlighted the university’s contributions to growth and development of education in the country.
He said the CUG has served both Catholics and non-Catholics and thereby contributing meaningful intellectual and social development saying with the fund the institution had laid slod educational foundation for the future generations.
“Today we are laying a solid foundation for generations because education sustains life and a legacy, we must all help to build”, Mt Rev Gyamfi stated.
Dr Sarfo Asamoah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Medcourt Pharmacy who presided, commended the university authorities for the fund which would greatly help promote quality education in the country.
He emphasised that sustainable academic excellence largely hinged on consistent and reliable funding, stressing that “the endowment fund is a bold and necessary step toward securing CUG’s future”.
