Berekum (Bono), April 2, GNA – The Berekum Holy Family Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Bono Region has admitted 321 fresh students to pursue various health programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year.
They were admitted into the Registered General Nursing and Registered Midwifery programmes. Addressing the 27th matriculation ceremony, Miss Monica Nkrumah, the Principal of the College said the institution received 820 applications for the academic year.
She said the college had secured a three-year affiliation with the University of Cape Coast and accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to offer a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health Nursing programme.
Ms Nkrumah added that a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Midwifery programme would also commence very soon, saying, they aimed at equipping students with the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies in nursing and midwifery professions.
She assured the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare education while instilling biblical values of compassion, empathy, forgiveness, humility and selflessness in students.
The College Principal urged the fresh students to learn hard and also uphold the values of the nursing and midwifery profession and called on health workers to do away with unprofessionalism.
Ms Nkrumah enumerated several challenges including delays in completion of some projects due to lack of funds, inadequate research output, staff attrition, financial constraints, inadequate staff accommodation, limited lecture halls and hostel facilities, as confronting the college.
Despite those challenges, she said the college remained resolute in implementing strategic interventions aimed at enhancing research work, infrastructure development, faculty retention, and financial sustainability.
Ms Nkrumah also urged the freshers to live exemplary lives and serve as good ambassadors of the college.
