Wute (VR) April 10, GNA – Mr Wisdom Akpabli, the Assembly member of Wute electoral area, has made a heartfelt appeal for infrastructure support for the Health Centre in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region.

The Wute Health Centre, which served a significant population in the area, currently faced numerous challenges hindering its ability to provide quality healthcare services for the community.

Mr Akpabli, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the health facility lacked essential infrastructure development, including inadequate facilities and equipment to effectively cater for quality healthcare needs of the community, resulting in a significant setback on the centre’s resources.

“The Wute health centre is one of the oldest facilities in the Akatsi South Municipality and it is about 27 years old, but the most interesting story about its existence is that there was no renovation work on the structure since, and the building is now a threat to both patients and health workers due to its current state,” he said.

He expressed deep concern over the health centre’s condition and emphasised the need for urgent support to upgrade and uplift the facility and indicated that proper upgrading could be crucial to enable the health centre to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Wute and its environs.

Mr Akpabli further suggested that in addressing the health centre’s infrastructure challenges, the District Assembly and other stakeholders should collaborate to provide the necessary support which include upgrading the centre’s facilities, providing essential equipment, and increasing the number of healthcare professionals in the areas.

“I have personally ordered for some materials to begin renovation works on the health facility, and we need help from every individual, philanthropists, corporate organisations and benevolence workers to assist us solve the challenges,” he said.

He said that the Wute health centre’s condition has a significant impact on the community, with many residents relying on it for their healthcare needs and improving the centre’s infrastructure would greatly benefit the community in providing them with access to quality healthcare services and improving their overall well-being.

Mr Akpabli said that the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly had faced a significant healthcare challenge, with a high demand for quality healthcare services delivery and urged Mr Daniel Dagba, the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to put up better initiatives to address the challenges faced by Wute Health Centre and others.

Some nurses at Wute health centre who spoke to GNA, expressed worry about the dilapidated current state of the structures which hampered their effectiveness and appealed to the authorities to as a matter of urgency address the challenges for better healthcare delivery.

They said the right support for the health centre would have potentials to become a model for healthcare delivery in the district and by upgrading facilities and providing quality healthcare services, the centre can improve health outcomes of the community and contribute to the district’s overall development.
