Kumasi April 14, GNA – The Ashanti West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has begun the construction 11KV distribution lines (Feeder) to improve power supply in the Atwima Kwanwoma district within the region.
The project estimated to cost about GHc 2,287,841.31, will include the erection of 85 new high-tension poles, 11KV headgear, stringing of new conductors and other materials.
Mr George Amoah, Ashanti West Regional Manager of the ECG, told the Ghana News Agency that, the project, which is expected to be completed this year, was 40 per cent complete.
He noted that the new 11KV feeder was being constructed from the Kumasi Asekyem Primary Substation as part of efforts to relieve the 11KV Kokoben and Ampabame feeders.
According to him, there had been significant load growth towards the Ampabame enclave, and this had been compounded by the ongoing road construction and massive springing up of infrastructure in the enclave.
The project, Mr Amoah said, would help reduce system losses, improve reliable and stable power supply within the enclave, improve voltage profile and promote operational efficiency and flexibility.
He said the successful completion of the distribution line would benefit customers in and around Ahenema Kokoben, Trede, Heman and Darko.

Also, customers in Ampatia, Ampabame, Kotwi, Pakyi, Bebu, Brofoyedru, Bekwaime and its environs, would not be left out as beneficiaries of the project.
Mr Amoah said the ECG was embarking on similar projects across the region to improve the supply of electricity to its customers.
He said the projects were a step in the right direction to fulfil the mission of the ECG to provide customers with quality, reliable and safe electricity services to support the socio-economic growth and development of the country.
Again, Mr Amoah indicated that the provision of a stable and reliable power supply would attract businesses to the region and make customers satisfied and happy with the services of the ECG.
He advised citizens to desist from engaging in illegal electricity connections and pay their bills promptly to help the ECG to serve them better.
