Akatsi (VR), April 24, GNA – A total of 523 farmers have benefitted from a fertiliser donation to boost rice farming in the Akatsi South Municipality.
The offer, championed by Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, was also meant to encourage farmers to expand their farming ventures.
Mr. Ahiafor, during a short meeting with the beneficiaries, who are mostly rice farmers, assured them of this continuous support for the area’s economic growth.
He indicated that farming had remained a strong pillar upon which the government relied to thrive.
Mr. Ahiafor also observed that rice farming within his constituency was on the rise, hence the need to explore other avenues in bringing the needed support to all hard-working farmers.
He further pledged to ensure fair distribution and support to all farmers regardless of one’s political affiliation or religious background.
Mr. Ahiafor also advised the farmers to adjust their farming activities to meet the increasing climate change conditions in order to mitigate post-harvest losses.

Over 800 bags of NPK fertilisers were distributed to the farmers which saw Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, and other party executives in attendance.
The beneficiaries were drawn from various associations such as the Norvisi Rice Farmers Group, Moshie Rice Farmers, Lorlornyo Rice Farmers Group, Progressive Group, Torve Rice Farmers Group, Tsigbene, and Dawlo Rice Farmers Group.
The various group leaders, in their turn, thanked Mr. Ahiafor for the kind gesture.
They assured him of using the fertilisers for the intended purpose.
Other discussions during the encounter were also centered on the various challenges faced in the rice production sector and how to mitigate them.
