By Daniel Agbesi Latsu

Kadjebi (O/R), April 10, GNA – Mr. Anthony Ahiable, the Assemblyman for Wawaso/Wawaboi Electoral Area in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, has been elected as the new Presiding Member (PM) of the Kadjebi District Assembly.

Of the 51-Assembly members present and voting, he garnered 46 “Yes” votes, representing 90.2 per cent, against 5 “No” votes, representing 9.8 per cent.

This resulted from a second round of voting, in which Mr. Budu Boakye Danquah, the Assemblyman for Asato Electoral Area, decided to step down for him.

In the first round of voting, Ahiable secured 29 votes, representing 56.8 per cent as compared to 21 votes polled by Budu, representing 41.2 per cent, with one rejected ballot.

As none of the candidates secured the required two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting, a second round of voting was necessary.

The election was conducted and supervised by Electoral Commission Officials led by Mr. Justice Odame Frimpong, the Kadjebi District Electoral Officer.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ahiable commended his colleagues for giving him the nod.

The PM-elect pledged to work closely with them for the rapid development of the Kadjebi District.

Mr. Ahiable promised to run an open-door administration and to tolerate criticism and support the good policies of the Assembly for the benefit of the district.

Mr. George Wellington Arhin, Kadjebi District Magistrate, administered the Oath of Secrecy, Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance to Mr. Ahiable.

Present were Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, Oti Regional Minister, Mr. Yao Gomado, Akan MP, Dr. Sam Suraj Issaka, Kadjebi DCE, Mr. Aziz Abdul Muniru, former MP for Akan, Mr. Joseph Kwadwo Ofori, former MP for Akan, and Mr. Seth Frank Alifui, former DCE for Kadjebi, among others.
