Accra, April 03, GNA – Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) has embarked on a four-day working visit as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and promote the sport of Armwrestling.
The AFA President during his visit is expected to hold talks with key stakeholders in South African sports, including the Minister for Sports and Culture, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) to share his vision for the growth of the sport while discussing ways to strengthen its governing body.
Mr. Osei Asibey, who doubles as Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation speaking in an interview with the GNA Sport said “South Africa is a pit and sanctuary for Armwrestling. We are excited about this visit and the opportunities it presents for the growth and development of Armwrestling in Africa.”
He said the visit would not only be beneficial to the association but also create opportunities for athletes across the continent.
He said Armwrestling had grown over the past few years, hence the need to embrace the sport and develop a strategic plan going forward.
In addition to his meetings with sports stakeholders, President Osei Asibey will also take the opportunity to visit the Multichoice House, where he will have meetings with SuperSport, Africa’s leading sports broadcaster.
Whilst in South Africa, the President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) and Ghana Armwrestling Federation will also call on the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria.
President Osei Asibey since assuming office in 2022 had been a beacon of hope for the Sport.
Under his tenure, Armwrestling for the first time found its way into the history books of the African Games as a competitive sport.
