Adaklu Abuadi (V/R), April 10, GNA – Mr Jerry Ameko, Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE) Thursday pleaded with the Police administration to as a matter of urgency increase its personnel in the district to help boost the peace and security of the area.

He said the 13 Police officers manning the vast land mass of Adaklu and its over 90 communities were woefully inadequate and appealed for the opening of more Police posts in the district.

Mr. Ameko made the plea when Madam Esther Buakumah, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of Adaklu District, called on Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V, President of Adaklu Traditional Council at his palace at Adaklu Abuadi in the Adaklu district.

The aim of the call was to introduce the new Volta Regional Police Commander to the Adaklu Traditional Council and the DCE, but the chiefs were informed that “the Regional Commander was called to Accra at the 11th hour for an important national assignment.”

Mr. Ameko called on all citizens of the area to complement the work of the Police by being vigilant in their communities and also gave information about suspicious persons to the Police so as to protect the security and peace of the area adding that “security is a shared responsibility.”

He informed the chiefs that he would soon convene a District Security Council meeting to deliberate on the menace of Fulani herdsmen and other security issues in the district.

Mr. Ameko also informed that some investors would soon come to the district to establish business ventures and also help boost agriculture and pleaded with the traditional authorities and land owners to release land to them.

He noted that these investors would help open the district and also create employment opportunities for the youth.

The DCE stated that reports reaching him were that Police personnel from other districts were allegedly “invading and terrorizing” drivers and traders in Adaklu, especially on Adaklu Waya animal market days and collecting money from them and appealed to the Regional Police Commander to call these “unpatriotic officers” to order.

He disclosed that some of the quarries in the district which were dormant would be revived and properly monitored to not only create employment opportunities but also generate revenue for the Assembly.

Mr. Ameko used the opportunity to thank the President, chiefs and Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with them to lift Adaklu to another level.

“There are more competent people than me in Adaklu but I am sure with sound counseling from the traditional authorities and other stakeholders. I will move Adaklu from where my predecessors left it to another level,” he assured.

Togbe Agbobada IV, Senior Divisional Chief of Adaklu Anfoe who spoke on behalf of his colleagues lamented the situation where detractors of Adaklu were portraying it in a bad image to the world and called on all citizens to work hard to erase all negative perceptions about it.

He was sure that the government would not turn death ears to their cries for development projects, adding that they are sure to have a fair share of the national cake.

He congratulated Mr. Ameko on his nomination and endorsement as the DCE for the area and pledged the preparedness of the chiefs of the area to assist him in achieving his vision for the district.

The chiefs presented a number of items to the Regional Police Commander through the Adaklu District Police Commander.

Present were Mr. Sylvanus Plaha, Adaklu District Coordinating Director, Mr. Mark Dodzi Hoenyekor, Presiding Member of the Adaklu District Assembly a

Assembly members and chiefs and queen mothers from the traditional council.
