Accra, April.23, GNA – Over 45 athletes from ten countries have confirmed their participation in the 2025 West African Bodybuilding Championship scheduled for 25th April to 28th April at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
They were Nigeria, Niger, Togo, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and DR Congo.
The prestigious championship aims to bring together top-tier bodybuilding athletes across West Africa, fostering regional unity and promoting sport’s growth within the continent.
Mr. Abdul Hayye Yartey, President of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) speaking at the launch said the competition had seen tremendous growth since its inception in 2022.
“From last year when we had about six countries registering to participate, the number has now shot up to ten following how attractive the competition has become”, he said.
He announced that the fourth IFBB West African Championship would be the second Bodybuilding Championship in Africa which would be a Pro Card event.
Pro Card in bodybuilding is a symbol of achieving a high level of accomplishment in the sport whereas granting athletes access to professional level competitions.
He said the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, together with other neighboring countries were on a mission to make the West African Championship the biggest bodybuilding event in Africa.
Mr. Yartey said as part of promoting fitness among individuals, there would an Aerobics Championship which would serve as curtain raiser for the sub-regional event.
He expressed heartfelt appreciation to Corporate Ghana for their support and called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team.
Athletes are expected to arrive in Ghana on Thursday, 24th April,2025.
