Accra, April 22, GNA – The Maternity Unit of the 37 Military Hospital recorded 20 deliveries during the Easter festivities, with six babies born through spontaneous vaginal delivery and the rest via caesarean section.

The newborns, delivered between Good Friday and Easter Monday, comprised 14 females and six males.

Most of the deliveries were referrals from other facilities to the hospital, Madam Deborah Boateng, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Maternity Unit, told the Ghana News Agency on Easter Monday.

She advised the mothers to prioritise rest to avoid postpartum complications.

“I am pleading with all women who have delivered, especially this Easter, to rest when they go home,” Madam Boateng said.

“The baby will take some of your time at night, and if you don’t rest, it becomes a burden.”

“Many mothers come back with postpartum high blood pressure, headaches, dizziness, and related issues. So taking a rest is very important.”

Madam Boateng encouraged the new mothers to adhere strictly to the medications prescribed for them at discharge, which included blood pressure and postpartum medications.

She assured the public that the hospital remained opened to all maternity cases.

Some of the mothers shared their experiences of giving birth during the holy season.

One mother, who delivered on Holy Saturday, said it was not her first time giving birth during Easter.

“I knew my estimated due date would fall within Easter. This is the second time I’ve given birth during the Easter period. It’s God’s will that all my children were born in Easter.” She said.

Another mother, who went through a caesarean section on Holy Saturday, said though she could not celebrate Easter, she was glad she put to birth during the holy season.

“ Even though I couldn’t celebrate the Easter, I am happy I gave birth during this season, It’s a blessing for me and my family,” she added.
