Prang, (Bono East), March 28, GNA – Traders at the Zabarama yam market in the Pru West District of the Bono East Region have called on the government to fix the poor state of the market.
Despite the significant contribution towards economic growth and development of the district, the traders said the market still lacked some basic facilities.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Zabarama, a settler community in the district, the traders appealed for market stores and sheds as well as sanitary facilities like urinals and toilets.
During a visit by the GNA, they highlighted the economic potential of the market saying with the facilities the market would improve revenue collection of the Pru West District Assembly.
Mr Soyaam Mbe, the local chairman at the yam market indicated that the market hosted buyers and sellers from Atebubu, Amantin, Techiman and Kintampo, and appealed to the government to come to their aid.
He said the traders had made persistent appeals to authorities at the District Assembly, but the situation remained the same, saying the condition at the market always worsened during the wet seasons.
Mr Mbe said if the authorities failed to tackle the market challenges, some of the traders had resolved to stop paying the market tolls.
When contacted, Mr Nuhu Salifu, the Assembly Member of the Zabarama Electoral Area also stressed the need for the Assembly to improve the condition at the market, considering the amount of revenue generated there.
