Kenyase (Ash), March 20, GNA – The Dental Therapy Department (DTD) of the Garden City University College (GCUC) at Kenyase, near Kumasi, has organized a free dental screening exercise for the people in the community.
The dental screening was part of activities marking the World Oral Health Day, which was marked on the theme: “A happy mouth is a happy mind.”
Dr. Kwabena Sarrpong, Dental Surgeon at the GCUC Dental Clinic, speaking at the event, said the exercise was to promote oral health and to encourage the people to prioritise their oral hygiene.
He said about 300 patients were expected to receive treatment in various oral health problems.
Among the treatments were extractions, tooth cleaning and polishing, filling and flossing.
Patients were also taught the proper tooth brushing procedure.
He advised the patients to visit the dental clinic at least, twice every year to help improve their oral health.
Dr. Sarrpong called on the government to subsidise training cost of dentistry to enable many people to receive training and take up the profession.
He stressed the need to include dental health in all health facilities to bring treatment and management of oral health closer to the people.
Ms. Louisa Oppong, Dental Therapist student, called for support in dental health logistics to help in practical training of students.
Madam Afua Saah, a beneficiary, expressed happiness about the treatment she received and called for more of such health screening exercises in the community
