Wa, (UW/R), Feb. 28, GNA – Some people in the Wa municipality have described the President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) as giving a glimmer of hope aimed at resetting the country to regain its past glory.
They praised the President’s transparency and truthfulness in presenting the nation’s current state in the SONA and urged him to work hard to put the country back to economic growth.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in separate interviews after the President’s address, some of the residents said that they were confident in his assurance of transforming the current economic situation in the country.
Mr John Dinbong, a resident, lauded the government for the various policy intervention, aimed at addressing the economic problems, and encourage it to do more, particularly in the energy sector to save industries and businesses.
He added that when productivity declines, the national economy would suffer and called for pragmatic solutions through innovations to solve the energy crisis.
Madam Evelyn Kuubata, appealed to the government to tackle unemployment, create more jobs, and expand employment opportunities, especially for the youth to curb truancy.
Madam Kuubata said people were struggling with the rising cost of living, saying, “We expect actions and not mere speeches that might not materilise.”
Madam Wasilatu Iddrisu, a businesswoman, appealed to the President to address inflation, unemployment, and economic hardship, which were affecting businesses and livelihoods in the country.
She added that the rising cost of goods and services was affecting businesses and that if nothing was done about it the economic hardship would continue unabated.
Mr Maxwell Kyere, a teacher, called on the government and state institutions to eliminate corruption, and encouraged hard work and dedication to duty.
He entreated the government to improve upon the working conditions in the public sector to maximize productivity.
