Three schools participate in quiz to mark Independence Day at East Gonja

Salaga (S/R), March 25, GNA – Selected students of three Junior High Schools (JHS) in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region have taken part in a quiz competition testing their knowledge of the country’s 1992 Constitution.

The students are members of the Civic Education Clubs (CECs) drawn from the 31st December JHS, Timu Girls JHS, and Saint Peters JHS.

The questions focused on the political history of Ghana, the 1992 Constitution, democracy, fundamental human rights and freedoms, and current affairs.

It was organised by the East Gonja Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) as part of efforts to promote learning of the contents of the 1992 Constitution in an entertaining manner amongst students at the basic school level.

It also formed part of activities by the NCCE in the Municipality to mark the country’s 68th Independence Day celebrations.

Mr Iddrisu Latif, East Gonja Municipal Director of NCCE, speaking during the competition at Salaga, encouraged students to join the CECs in their schools.

He said this would improve students’ knowledge and understanding of the provisions of the Constitution to guide them in their various activities.

At the end of the quiz, 31st December JHS emerged as winners followed by Timu Girls JHS while Saint Peters JHS placed third.

They were awarded various prizes including scientific wall clocks.
