Accra, March 24, GNA – The Minister for the Interior has, by Executive Instrument, renewed the curfew hours for Walewale and surrounding areas in the North East Region from 2200 hours to 0400 hours, effective Monday, March 24, 2025.
A press release signed by Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) also imposed a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon.
“Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted”, the release said.
“Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace”, the release added.
This follows an earlier curfew imposed on February 15, 2025, on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council (REGSEC), which restricted movement from 1800 hours to 0600 hours.
