Tema, March 06, GNA – Hundreds of residents of Tema, on Thursday embarked on a fitness fiesta to mark the commemoration of Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration.

The Tema Fitness Fiesta, organised by Daylight Events and participated in by both the young and old, was aimed at promoting health and wellness while serving as a gateway for residents to get active, have fun, and connect with others in the community.

The event, which was on the theme: “Health is wealth,” was also meant to bring people together to benefit from exercising their bodies.

Nana Yaw Danso, the Director of Daylight Events, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the event was a corporate social responsibility from the organisation to the community to advocate for good health and wellness.

He said that even though they targeted 200 participants, they exceeded their target, an indication of residents readiness to keep fit.

Mr. Danso mentioned that safety measures were in place for the event, stating that “the Ghana ambulance service and some medical personnel were present in case of any emergencies.”

He noted that even though there were preparations to ensure the participation of persons with disabilities, however, none of them attended.

He said there would be measures to attract them to such fitness events in  the future.

Mr. Seth Nortey, a driver and participant, said the atmosphere at the fitness fiesta was impressive, showing a sense of unity and togetherness among residents.

He suggested that such fitness programmes should be organised at least quarterly instead of annually.

Mr. Kwaw Dorku, a pensioner, advised the aged to participate in such events as such exercises were very beneficial during old age to keep them fit and reduce the risk of contracting certain illnesses.

Mr. Patrick Kay, a fitness instructor, emphasised that being healthy was significant in the lives of individuals, hence the need for fitness.
