Tamale Technical University matriculates about 8,000 students

Tamale, March 22, GNA – The Tamale Technical University (TaTU ) at the weekend held its 7th matriculation ceremony to welcome a total of 8, 272 new students to study various programmes. 

The University received 8,490 applications for the 2024/2025 academic year but admitted to 8,272 applicants after rigorous admission processes. 

Breakdown of the admission statistics included 607 students made up of 181 females and 426 males who were admitted to study master’s Programmes, 3,794 comprising 1,381 females and 2,413 males were admitted to study Bachelor of Technology Programmes, 364 made up of 81 females, 283 males received admission to study Higher National Diploma Programmes. 

Diploma of Technology Programme students was 2,115 admissions, comprising 753 females and 1,362 males, while Certificate of Technology new entrants was 1,336 with 433 females and 903 males, while Allied Health Degree Access Programme students were 56, including 37 females and 19 males, respectively. 

Professor Bashiru Saeed, Vice – Chancellor of  TaTU in his welcome address, said the statistics demonstrated the growing interest of prospective students in the University’s Programmes and the increasing diversity of the student body. 

While welcoming the fresh students into the University, the Vice Chancellor underscored need for them to uphold the principles enshrined in their matriculation oath and familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations outlined in the University’s student book, adding “Knowledge is Power, and Ignorance is bliss only in the absence of Knowledge”. 

He challenged them to develop keen interest in learning and research to enable them acquire knowledge and skills needed to solve both local and global problems through innovative solutions and entrepreneurship. 

The Vice Chancellor stressed on the University’s commitment to teaching, research and community outreach initiatives to tackle head-on the challenges confronting the country, including sustainable development, social inequality, and environmental sustainability. 

Professor Saeed touched on the University’s holistic drive for development, adding that it has initiated a local scholarship programme aimed at supporting needy and brilliant students from the university’s surrounding communities to receive full tuition waivers to enable them to pursue their academic dreams without the burden of school fees. 

He spoke on the University’s infrastructure constraints, saying it has not kept pace with the growing student population and academic programmes. “This deficit hampers our ability to provide the best possible learning environment for our students and to expand our academic offerings”. 

He appealed to all stakeholders, including the alumni, staff, and the University community to join forces to help bridge the infrastructure gap. “I urge you to contribute your widow’s might, be it financial support, expertise or innovative ideas to help us overcome these challenges”. 

Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu, Registrar at the University, later administered the convocation oath to the matriculants.
