Sege, March 11, GNA – Mr. Ernest Dugbanor Kugblenu, Assembly Member for Sege-Koni Electoral Area in the Ada West District, has expressed concerns over the increasing incidence of robbery activities within the Sege township and on major roads linking the town to nearby communities.
Mr. Kugblenu noted that theft, brutality, and other criminal activities were also on the rise.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sege, he disclosed that certain areas in the Sege township become unsafe after 19:00 hours, making it difficult for residents to move around.
He stated that some residents have fallen victim to ambush attacks by armed robbers at gun or knife points while walking in the town at night, resulting in the loss of valuables such as phones, motorbikes, and money.
Mr. Kugblenu added that heavy-duty trucks that buy and deposit sand are mostly attacked by armed robbers on the Sege-Battor Road, a development that could hinder the town’s development and promotion.
Madam Agnes, a trader, narrated her ordeal of being ambushed by a knife-wielding attacker at the Sege Community Park at night.
“He covered his face and demanded that I hand over my phone and the day’s sales, which totalled GHS 2,350.00 and some coins,” she recounted.
Some community members told the GNA that when they reported such incidents to the police, little or no effort was made to apprehend the perpetrators, even when they were identifiable.
They also added that even when the perpetrators were arrested, they would be seen the next day in the town threatening individuals they believed were behind their arrest.
The residents therefore called on the Inspector General of Police to call the officers to order and reshuffle them, if possible, as some of them had become too accustomed to the people.
