Accra, March 12, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that the launch of the second phase of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) would be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
This forms part of efforts to reaffirm AMA’s commitment to empowering young people to lead innovative solutions to combat climate change.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the AMA, Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah on behalf of the Coordinating Director, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the event would take place at the AMA office in Accra.
The launch is expected to bring together government officials, climate experts, youth innovators, and development partners to highlight the importance of youth-driven climate action.
The YCAF, first announced at Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Innovation Studio during CP28 UAE, is a global initiative aimed at providing technical support and funding for young people aged 15-24 to develop and implement projects that build resilience to climate impacts.
The statement said with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, United Cities and Local Government (UCLG), and the Bloomberg Centre for Public Innovation, AMA had secured an additional 100,000 dollars under the second phase to scale up youth-led climate initiatives across communities in Accra.
It emphasised that as part of the event an ideation workshop would equip young participants with skills, mentorship, and technical guidance required to refine their project ideas for possible funding.
“This initiative is aimed at empowering young people to take the lead in finding practical solutions to the environmental challenges we face as a city,” the statement said, adding that it aligned with the Assembly’s broader agenda for climate resilience and sustainability.
The AMA invited the public, youth groups, environmental advocates, and stakeholders to attend the event and actively join the movement for greater Accra.
It should be noted that more information on the Youth Climate Action Fund and guidance on how to apply for funding would be made available during the launch and could be accessed via official AMA platforms.
