President Mahama promotes new CDS, Army, Naval and Air Chiefs

Accra, March 24, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama, the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, acting on advice from the Armed Forces Council, has promoted the incoming Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, and the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The promotions take effect from Monday, March 24, 2025, ahead of the final handing over by the outgoing administration, a statement signed by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communication, said.

The Chief of Defence Staff is now Major General William Agyapong and the Chief of Army Staff is Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu.

The Chief of Naval Staff is Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing ; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, and Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai.

The President wishes the new Service Chiefs of the GAF “a successful tenure as they work loyally and diligently with patriotic courage as a united team cooperating to protect and defend our dear nation, Ghana”, the statement said.
