President Mahama nominates 17 people to MMDCE positions in Volta

Keta (VR), Mar 27, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has nominated a total of 17 persons comprising 14 males and three females as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCEs) positions in the various constituencies in the Volta Region.

The nominees were for the 17 MMDCEs with the exception of Kpando districts, which is pending for further notice.

The nominees include Stephen Adom for Ho metropolitan assembly, Prosper Kumi, for Hohoe Municipal and Revend Martin Amenaki and Nicholas Kwabla Worlachie for Ketu North and South districts, respectively.

Others include Wisdom Bondieu Seade for Keta, Jerry Yaw Ameko for Adaklu, Manfred Tawia for Afadzato South, Alfred Klu Odikro for Agortime-Ziope and Bless Kodjo Katamani and Daniel Dagba for Akatsi North and South, respectively.

The rest, include Dodzi Mornyie Addison for Central Tongu, Prosper Francis Dussey for Ho West, Courage Kwame Kokroko and Ernest Adevor for North Dayi.

The three female nominees were Sandra Seyram Kpedor for Anloga, Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe for North Tongu and Victoria Dzeklu for South Dayi.

Dr Richard Fiadomor, Local Governance Expect, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed concerned and worry about gender balance and called on more female to get involved in politics and other social intervention programmes that would impact positively in the society.

He congratulated the nominees and urged assembly members to vote and endorse them base on competent, hard work, experience among others, avoid of political and partisan interference.

“I hope that the regional and national vetting committee have taken the nominees through series of interview before proposing the best out of the many and it is over to assembly members to do the needful,” he said.

He warned various assembly members to avoid demanding money and other items from the nominees before the endorsement addition that,” it their responsibility either to endorse or not to reject any nominee but l don’t think the nominees are bad for assembly members to reject unless otherwise.”

Some residents in the Volta region GNA engaged, expressed worry about the fewer number of women nominees in the MMDCEs and appealed for more competent women in government appointee positions to balance and ensure gender equity the assemblies.

The announcement of nominees by President Mahama was in accordance with Article 243 of the 1992 constitution and Local Governance Art, 2016 (Art 936) as amended by Local Governance Art 2017.

The date for various assemblies to vote for the endorsement of the respective nominees is yet to be announced by the government.
