President Mahama appoints new Service Chiefs for Ghana Armed Forces

Accra, March 18, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama, Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has made changes in the command of the GAF.

A statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, copied to the Ghana News Agency said the President in consultations with the Council of State had appointed Acting Service Chiefs for the GAF, namely Brigadier General William Agyapong, Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Acting Chief of Army Staff and Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing, Acting Chief of Naval Staff.

The resting area Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong, Acting Chief of Air Staff and Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, Acting Chief of Staff.

The statement said the appointments take effect from March 24.

It said the President this afternoon met with the outgoing Service Chiefs, led by General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of the Defence Staff at the Flagstaff House.

Mr Mahama thanked them for their dedicated service to the nation and assured them of his willingness to rely on their varied experiences and depth of knowledge to reset Ghana.
