Dambai (O/R), March 4, GNA-The Oti community has taken the lead in calling for a comprehensive review of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, with a specific demand for the abolition of the Council of State position.
According to residents, during the CDD-Ghana forum held at Dambai, they contend that the Council of State has become redundant and is no longer serving its purpose.
They argue that the Council’s advisory role has not had a significant impact on the country’s governance and development.
“We believe that the Council of State has outlived its usefulness,” It’s time for us to review our constitution and ensure that our governance structures are effective and responsive to the needs of citizens.” They added.
Mr. Vincent Blessed Appiah, the Municipal Chairman of National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Krachi East highlighted that abolishing the council of state could free up resources for other pressing needs.
Mr Yaw Kanjo, the deputy Municipal Coordinating Director for Krachi East Municipal Assembly also joined forces, calling for abolition of council of state.
Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the segment, suggested that the council be scrapped due to its perceived huge salaries and inefficient.
According to him, the money allocated to the council could be better utilised elsewhere in various assemblies in Ghana.
