Nkonya (O/R), March 20, GNA – The Civic Education Club of the Nkonya Ntsumuru SDA Junior High School (JHS), has emerged as winners of this year’s Constitution game competition in the Biakoye District of the Oti region.

The Nkonya Kadjebi DA JHS came second followed by Nkonya Ntsumuru E.P.JHS and Nkonya Ahenkro R.C. JHS Clubs took the third and fourth positions respectively.

Reverend Leonard Aglomasa, District Director, NCCE said the Commission decided to organise the contest to commemorate the 68th Independence Day adding that “we celebrate not only the freedom we cherish, but also the ideals enshrined in our Constitution”.

He said the Constitution was the backbone of the country’s democracy, a symbol of collective aspirations and values which embodied commitment to justice, equality and the rights of every citizen guiding in a journey towards a more equitable society.

Rev Aglomasa said the competition provided a unique opportunity for young minds to engage with the fundamental principles in a spirited and interactive way which challenged them to think critically, to collaborate and to explore the rich history and significance of the Constitution.

He said the competition also gave a reminder that the spirit of independence lived on through the young ones who were the future leaders, thinkers and change-makers.

Ms. Salomey Dogba, a Representative of the Headmaster, Nkonya Ntsumuru SDA JHS, lauded the role of NCCE in instilling democratic principles in the Youth of Ghana and called for more programmes with adequate support from the government.

She encouraged the learners to take their books seriously as future leaders and be law abiding and good citizens.

Mr. Ernest Mensah, a Civic Education Officer, said the Commission would visit other schools in the district to educate them and also take them through how the game was played.

The Commission presented copies of the 1992 Constitution, certificates of participation, exercise books and pens to the participating schools.
