Ekumfi Essarkyir (C/R), March 14, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education in the Ekumfi District has organised a quiz competition for selected basic schools in the area.
The event, held at Essarkyir Pentecost, was aimed at creating in-depth knowledge and understanding of the provisions of the 1992 Constitution among the students from the participating schools.
The participating schools were Methodist Basic School Essarkyir, Essuehyia Methodist Basic School, Youngsters Future Institute, T.I Attakwa Ahmadiyya Basic School and T.I Ahmadiyya Basic at Otuam
Students from Essarkyir Methodist Basic School, performed a drama on the Commission’s theme for the year; “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility.”
Madam Cecilia Dam, Ekumfi District Director of the Commission in her open remarks explained that the competition was aimed at exposing the students to the country’s societal problems, constitution, current national events, and other related issues.
Mr Jude Gideon Eghan who represented the Central Regional Director of the Commission in his address, emphasised the Commission’s mandate and the steps taken to help people to imbibe the tenets of the 1992 constitution.
Madam Kafui Mary Ahlijah, Ekumfi District Director of Education who graced the event, in her remarks underscored the importance of understanding the tenets of the constitution.
She mentioned among others the importance of the constitution in enhancing the country’s democratic credentials and urged the citizens to take interest not only in reading the provisions of the constitution but understanding it.

She expressed gratitude to the competitors for their commitment and support for the success of the programme and applauded the NCCE for the initiative in promoting and sustaining Ghana’s democracy.
She further encouraged the Commission to replicate such insightful programme to all schools in the country.
Nana Bambil Ansah V, Chief of Ekumfi Asaman and the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee Chairman, who chaired the event commended the NCCE for its innovative way at creating awareness among students in basic schools on the constitution across the country.
He advised and encouraged the contestants to take advantage of the event to become agents of change rather than indulging in acts which will have detrimental impact on their lives.
“I urge the NCCE to extend such event to all schools in the district and I know if students have more knowledge on the constitution and societal issues, it will go a long way to help them to become patriotic citizens and improve their lives,” he added.
At the end of the competition Essarkyir Methodists Basic School was adjudged the winner and they took home a trophy while all the contestants were also given certificates of participation and souvenirs.
