Weta (V/R), Mar. 31, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North Constituency, Mr. Eric Edem Agbana, has reiterated the critical role apprenticeship programs play in equipping young people with practical skills and reducing unemployment in the constituency.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony in Weta on Sunday, March 30, where 11 young women graduated as trained seamstresses, Mr. Agbana emphasised that vocational training is a key tool for economic empowerment.

He reaffirmed his dedication to supporting apprentices and their trainers, ensuring that more youth have access to skill acquisition programs that provide sustainable employment opportunities.

According to Mr. Agbana, the National Apprenticeship Program underscores the significance of structured skills training in preparing young people for the job market.

He stated that efforts are underway to enroll more youth into various apprenticeship programs, ranging from tailoring and hairdressing to carpentry and welding.

“Empowering our youth through skills training is not just an investment in individuals; it is an investment in our entire community. When young people gain practical skills, they become self-sufficient, contribute to local businesses, and reduce unemployment. We are committed to ensuring more young people take advantage of apprenticeship opportunities,” he stated.

Beyond his support for skills training, Mr. Agbana took the opportunity to brief the community on several development projects aimed at improving livelihoods in Ketu North.

The MP assured residents that work on the Weta Irrigation Project is progressing steadily and remains a priority. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance agricultural productivity, create job opportunities, and boost food security in the area.

Education remains a key focus for the MP, and he reaffirmed his commitment to the Scholarship Scheme that has provided financial support to students across the constituency.

He encouraged students and parents to take advantage of the initiative, stressing that education remains a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty.

Mr. Agbana also announced that the reconstruction of the Weta-Afiadenyigba-Havedzi Road has been prioritized in the Ministry of Roads and Highways’ budget for this year.

He assured residents that once completed, the road project will improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and enhance transportation in the constituency.

The MP used the occasion to caution young people against substance abuse, urging them to stay focused on their education and career aspirations.

He emphasised the dangers of drug addiction, warning that it could derail their future and prevent them from reaching their full potential.

“You are the future of Ketu North. Say no to drugs and bad influences. Instead, embrace opportunities that will shape you into productive members of society,” he advised.

In concluding his remarks, Mr. Agbana expressed deep gratitude to the chiefs and people of Weta for their continuous support and warm reception.

He reaffirmed his commitment to driving development initiatives that uplift the lives of constituents.

The graduation ceremony was attended by traditional leaders, community members, and families of the graduates, all of whom commended the MP for his dedication to youth empowerment and skills development.

With Mr. Agbana’s continued commitment to apprenticeship programs, education, and infrastructure development, the people of Ketu North can expect more initiatives geared toward economic growth and social progress.

The MP encouraged more young people to embrace vocational training as a pathway to financial independence and community development.
